La Senda de Camille
The most beautiful trekk in the Pyrenees
La Senda de Camille is a circular trekking route that explores the stunning valleys of the Western Valleys Natural Park in Aragón, Spain, and the Pyrenees National Park in the French department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
This trail is named after Camille, the last native Pyrenean bear, declared extinct in 2020 at the age of twenty-five, when no more traces were found. The route passes through the natural habitat where Camille spent its final years.
The trek offers a unique opportunity to experience both the southern and northern slopes of the Pyrenees, crossing mid-mountain terrain filled with pine and beech forests and alpine meadows. The moderate mountain passes will take you from one valley to the next, revealing spectacular, peaceful landscapes that radiate calm.
However, this trek is not for everyone, as the accumulated elevation changes can be demanding. Nearly every day includes over 1,000 meters of ascent and descent, so prior trekking experience and good physical condition are required.
This translation is crafted to appeal to adventurous and nature-loving hikers looking for authentic mountain experiences in the Pyrenees.
Requirements
• Good physical condition is essential as the trek involves 6-7 hours of walking daily with significant elevation gain and loss (around 1,000 meters each day).
• Prior mountain trekking experience is strongly recommended to handle varied terrain and altitude changes.

• Proper mountain equipment such as sturdy hiking boots, walking trousers, thermal layers, waterproof jacket, fleece, hat, and sun protection.
