Montserrat rock climbing Gorro Frigi - Via del Carles
El Gorro Frigi may be the mountain's most photographed needle, as evident from the Monastery.
Due to its short and easy approach (taking the Funicular), it is, for sure, the most popular multi-pitch region of the mountain.
Besides, walls are full of knobs and pockets that make all the routes moderate difficulty and fully bolted.
That does a pleasant climb, perfect to combine with the visit to the Monastery.
The "Via del Carles" may be the most repeated and classic.
Besides all of this, we are talking about the area that has more cultural history behind it. Hermits have been living in complete harmony with nature for more than 600 years. Spirituality is breathing all around, and we'll help you to discover why.
Me and my wife have been climbing indoors for about a year and climbed a few times outdoors. Never attempted a multipitch route and not knowing where to start to look for the right one in Montserrat we contacted Francisc. He matched us with a 5 pitch route following a 3 pitch route. Both routes were perfect for our skills, with extraordinary views of the abbey and the surrounding valley. Francisc being super professional made us feel comfortable with leading, setting up anchors and rappelling. After his day of guiding both of us feel confident to do multipitch climbs whereever we go. Thank you Francisc!

I highly recommend GdM climbing guides. We had a excellent day of climbing and our guide, Adri, was very experienced and took us to an area with some fun and challenging routes. Francesc coordinated the trip and responds quickly and communicated well. He did a great job arranging the trip around our request. For a day climbing trip it was well worth the cost.

An excellent experience through and through. From my initial search for potential guides, GDM guide service had the most thorough information, and best reviews. During the initial information gathering, our guide Francesc was very prompt and thorough in responding to our queries. He provided very clear directions for getting from downtown Barcelona to the train station and cable car, and was waiting for my wife and I at the top. We made the short walk up and after discussion of our route options, we elected to go with a nice 5 pitch sport route on Gorra Frígia based on the recommendation from Francesc. We brought our own shoes and harnesses, and Francesc provided helmets and necessary gear. Francesc led the first pitch, and then let me (an experienced trad leader) lead the remaining 4 pitches to the top. He was very helpful with providing clear beta for the routes, and even took some great pictures of us while in action, which he later shared free of charge :) From the top, we rappelled down and took the trail back to the monastery where Francesc parted ways, after some good food recommendations. His great personality, attention to detail, and extensive knowledge of the area were crucial to the success of our day. I would highly recommend a day of climbing with GDM!

Me and a friend went to Montserrat for rockclimbing (multi-pitch) and we booked three days private guidance with Francesc. The three days were perfect for a great stay with many diverse activities, really creating a very complete adventure and the key to enter a place that felt like a different wold, called Montserrat. Beside rockclimbing, we love nature photography and that extra dimension was one that Francesc understood perfectly. He learned us all the outdoor climbing and multi-pitch techniques and guided us to the most beautiful spots of the area. He was very professional, relaxed and patient in adapting to our level. We are not experienced outdoor climbers and not high level climbers. However, Francesc's guidance enabled us to conquer several easier but very high 'needles' anyway in a safe way. Besides the climbs, he proposed some d-tours to show us some great viewpoints during the hikes, did canyoning on the route from the climb spot to the car and he made a lot of cool photo's. He really made our trip! Even for experienced outdoor rock-climbers he can help to bring you to the best spots and help to get comfortable with a very different way of climbing because of the rock in Montserrat. Everything went very smooth with the organisation and language as well. Great guide if you are looking for a climbing adventure in which you want to fully absorb the beauty of Montserrat.
